Guillaume Humbert takes over from Phil Laak as WSOPE Event 1 - NLH 6-Max Champion. The unknown Humbert - who entered today's play as chip leader - had an eventful final day. Not only did his chip stack go up and down throughout the day, he also had to survive a strong Final 12 - the list included David Benyamine and Anton Wigg - neither of which could make it to Final Table play (Saturday's play ended prior to us reaching final table play, We started today with 12).
One man who did make it to the final table was a man looking for a record 12th WSOP bracelet - the Poker Brat himself, Phil Hellmuth.
Hellmuth started the day fine, working his way up to the top at one point ... but, a could of pot losses and Hellmuth was suddenly hanging on by a thread once final table play began. Hellmuth was able to battle back a little but, in the end, 7th place is the best that Hellmuth could do.
Still, Hellmuth moves up one spot on the 2011 PTPR Poker Tournament Player of the Year Leaderboard, surpassing defending PCA Main Event Champ Galen Hall along the way - Hellmuth now sits 12th on the list.
