WPT MARRAKECH: ALL-MOROCCAN AFFAIR AT WPT MARREKECH

PHOTO: PARTYPOKER.com
SOURCE: POKERNEWS.com

It wasn't the finish that most of the world was hoping for ... but, it was certainly the finish that all of Morocco was eagerly anticipating.

ElkY, Duhamel, Mattern - it had the making for a WPT Final Table for the ages! But, ElkY and Duhamel were out early and Mattern was gone during Final Four play.

We were down to three. Mohamed Ali Houssam and Toufik Ourini - both from Morocco - and Maksim Martinov - who was cast in the role of spoiler - at least, that's what he was hoping for.

But in a crazy hand that had Martinov as the overwhelming favorite over Ourini, Ourini was able to hit runner-runner, to confiscate Martinov's two-pair - and the crowd, Ourini and countryman Houssam erupted in celebration - Morocco has their two native sons battling it out heads up.

In the end, Mohamed Ali Houssam took down WPT Marrakech.

ElkY had a chance at second and third place on the 2011 PTPR Leaderboard but alas, he'll remain third overall. As for Duhamel, he does earn his fifth PTPR Score of the season, but, is unable to enter the Top 15 Leaderboard ...

WPT MARRAKECH: DUHAMEL DOMINATES EARLY, ElkY RISES LATE AS FINAL TABLE IS SET

PHOTO: PARTYPOKER.com
SOURCE: POKERNEWS.com

It's final table time in Marrakech and the stars are out for this one!

Leading the charge is Mohamed Ali Houssam who will start the final day with 1.33 chips.

2010 WSOP Champion Jonathan Duhamel is right there behind Houssam, a little 200k in chips behind Houssam. And what a day it was for Duhamel. He started off losing a bunch of chips on the very first hand but then Duhamel went on a rampage, collecting tons of chips and holding the chip lead for most of the day.

Arnaud Mattern sits fifth in chips as final table play looms. Mattern - who finished 10th at WSOP Europe and 14th at WPT Amneville - is hoping to continue on his recent upswing after a slow start to 2011.

But buzz late on Saturday was on Mattern's countryman. Less than a week after losing a kickboxing fight to fellow PokerStars pro Lex Veldhuis, Betrand Grospellier is right back on his feet, ready to take his second ever WPT World title. ElkY came on strong late in order to put himself in good position heading into Sunday's play.

There is a ton at stake for ElkY. Not only does he have a chance at taking the #1 spot in the Bluff Magazine Player of the Year race, a 5th place finish or better and ElkY would pass Eugene Katchalov for #2 on the PTPR Leaderboard ... third or better and ElkY would take the late season lead in the race for the 2011 PTPR Player of the Year.

FINAL TABLE CHIP COUNTS:
Mohamed Ali Houssam 1,330,000
Jonathan Duhamel 1,126,000
Hassan Fares 1,110,000
Toufik Ourini 1,054,000
Arnaud Mattern 952,000
Elky Grospellier 904,000
Rodney Assous 813,000
Maksim Martinov 646,000
Sebastien Ta 282,000

PTPR FINAL TABLE IN-FOCUS
3. Elky Grospellier, 324 PTPR Points
109. Jonathan Duhamel, 133
1131. Arnaud Mattern, 26

This is the first PTPR Score of the season for Houssam, Fares, Ourini, Assous, Martinov and Ta.

PTS AT STAKE: MOHAN LEADS AS FINAL FIFTEEN SET AT APPT MACAU

PHOTO/SOURCE: POKERSTARSBLOG.com

In what was being dubbed as the Phil Ivey comeback event, the 575 player field at APPT Macau was hoping that Ivey would be at the cash game tables and not at the final table when Sunday came ... well, it's almost Sunday and, the final fifteen players returning to the Grand Lisboa Casino for final day play have had their wish granted ... same goes for poker legend Johnny Chan - he too has found his seat at the massive cash games.

No Ivey, no Chan, no dream final table. But it's not like we're left with crap either, there are some fine storylines heading into final day play.

The chip leader Sangeeth Mohan. Mohan (pictured) is weeks removed from a PokerGuru Tour victory in India. In fact, Mohan's cashes all come from India - this is his first cash outside his home country.

Many will be looking for Nanonoko (aka Randy Lew) to lead the way on Sunday. Although he's a little low in chips, Nanonoko certainly has the experience needed to take advantage of lesser experienced players and could very well the one to take it down on the final day.

Jeff Rossiter - who scored poitns at the Aussie Millions this year - and David Steicke are also still in the mix.

BORGATA FALL: BADECKER'S SECOND BIG WIN OF THE SEASON

PHOTO: POKERNEWS.com
SOURCE: BORGATAFALLPOKEROPEN2011.blogspot.com

Many poker players would die to collect one big score per season. Andrew Badecker just scored his second major victory in the past five months - not a bad half-season for the Connecticut man.

After winning a WSOP bracelet this past summer, Badecker won the inaugural Borgata Fall Open NLH Championship early this morning. Badecker defeated a strong field and a final table that included two other bracelet winners.

Badecker's win has seen him gain 80 spots on the 2011 PTPR Poker Tournament Player of the Year Leaderboard. Badecker now sits 18th on the list, just a couple of spots outside our Top 15...

WPT JAX: DOMO ARIGATO, MR. RUBERTO, BAD PUN - GOOD WIN JACKSONVILLE

PHOTO/SOURCE: WPT.com

I apologize for the pun ... just thought of it this morning and somehow secretly hoped Anthony Ruberto would win so I can use it in the headline.

Anthony Ruberto has indeed picked up the big win in Jacksonville - picking up his first WPT title and his third PTPR Score of the season.

Ruberto entered final table play with the big stack and he continued to pickup chips as the day continued...

PTPR LEADERBOARD LIVE LOOK-IN:
37. Michael Mizrachi, 180 PTPR Points
38. Adrien Allain, 178
39. Mikhail Lakhitov, 177
40. Andrew Frankenberger, 176
41. Steve Billirakis, 175
42. Anthony Ruberto, 174

Lisa Hamilton was trying to become the first woman to win a open WPT title. The 2009 WSOP Ladies Champion was unable to win but, a third place finish, and a +110K cashout is nothing to sneeze at.

Local favourite Darryll Fish was hoping for a miracle - entering final table play as the short stack, Fish was unable to make anything happen and was the first man out.

WPT JACKSONVILLE FINAL TABLE PAYOUTS:
1- Anthony Ruberto $325,928
2- Sam Soverel $187,762
3- Lisa Hamilton $112,657
4- Vitor Coelho $75,105
5- Artie Rodriguez $55,077
6- Darryll Fish $46,315

WPT JAX: RUBERTO, COELHO LEAD THE CHARGE IN JACKSONVILLE

PHOTO/SOURCE: WPT.com

The WPT Final Table is set at the Orange Park Kennel Club as WPT Jacksonville will come to an end today, starting at Noon local time.

Anthony Ruberto is in control of his own destiny, carrying 4.5M chips to the final table. Ruberto - who has scores in the WSOP (Event 26 NLH 6-max) and a Borgata Open prelim - will hope that this experience will suffice in helping him capture his first WPT title.

Not that far behind Ruberto is a man who had the chip for most of the evening at the Kennel Club, Vitor Coelho. Coelho earned a PTPR Score at the begining of the season - scoring in the WPT Southern Poker Championship back in January.

Lisa Hamilton sits third in chips but she does bring tons of tournament experience with her to the final table. The 2009 WSOP Ladies Champion and the 2010 PCA High Rollers Final Table participants will hope that 2011 is the Year of the Woman on the WPT circuit!

Darryll Fish was favoured by many to take this one down but the reigning WPT Regional Summer Splash Champ (held at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, FLA back in August) will need all of Florida to get behind him in order for him to make a triumphant comeback - he is the short stack at the table.

FINAL TABLE SEATING ASSIGNMENTS/CHIP COUNTS:
Seat 1: Darryll Fish - 641,000
Seat 2: Anthony Roberto - 4,500,000

EPT LOUTRAKI: HESEDING RUNS OUT OF ALIGATOR BLOOD, ZIMNAN THE MAN IN GREECE

PHOTO/SOURCE: POKERSTARSBLOG.com (Neil Stoddart)

It took a while ... actually, it took a long heck of a while ... but, Zimnan Ziyard is the winner of the first ever EPT Loutraki Main Event.

Ziyard had to survive a pesky Hauke Heseding - who was up for a long fight. Heseding was down to a few big blinds three handed but refused to go away. He kept on chipping up and chipping up - he even held the chip lead at times when we were three handed and heads up. Heseding was a game opponent but, in the end, it was Ziyard who had the final say, picking up his second PTPR Score of 2011 - he had a sixth place finish at this summer's WSOP in the 3K PLO event.

PTPR LEADERBOARD LIVE LOOK-IN:
56. Justin Young, 159 PTPR Points
56. Zimnan Ziyard, 159
58. Martin Jacobson, 158
59. Jake Cody, 156
59. Pim de Goede, 156
61. Jason Somerville, 155

Mario Puccini, Rupert Elder and Pim van Riet all scored for the third time this season ... it was score #2 for Andras Kovacs, Vasileios Chantzaras and Koen de Visscher.

EPT LOUTRAKI FINAL TABLE PAYOUTS (in EURO):
1 - Zimnan Ziyard, €347,000
2 - Hauke Heseding, €221,800
3 - Ioannis "John" Taramas, €134,400

PTPR POKER ROUND-UP: SIDE EVENT ACTION AT BCPC

SOURCE: THEHENDONMOB.com, CANADAPOKER.com

The British Columbia Poker Championship (BCPC) ended earlier this month. We had Main Event results for you ... and now we bring you side event results from the BCPC - once again, thanks to Jon Harnish @Jontm at CANADAPOKER.com for info and results from the BCPC!

BCPC 1K NLH SIDE EVENT
Terry Tsang enjoyed himself at the BCPC this season. He followed a 10th place finish in the opening event with a win in the 1K NLH side event - collecting over 130k with the win - the biggest (by far) of his career.

BCPC NLH HIGH ROLLERS
It was time to put your money where your mouth was at the High Rollers event - Tri Huynh sure did, and he came out of the event with a title! Huynh is no stranger to big scores - he finished third at the 2010 WPT LA Poker Classic Main Event - collecting over 600k in the process. He also collected over 100k this summer at the WSOP, finishing 41st. He'll have to settle with about 115k in winnings in this one - we're sure he'll manage!

Runner-up Vincent Jacques earned a second PTPR Score this season, he scored at a Venetian Deepstack event back in June.

EPT LOUTRAKI: QUALIFIERS DOMINATE FINAL TABLE LINEUP

SOURCE: POKERSTARSBLOG.com

It's qualifier madness as the final table is set at EPT Loutraki as five of the final eight players qualified through Pokerstars in order to earn their way into the event.

The chip leader (who himself qualified) is Zimnan Ziyard. Ziyard took the lead late and has accumulated a whole bunch of chips ... he will enter final table play with a one million chip lead. Ziyard finished sixth at a 3K PLO event this past summer at the WSOP - that event was won by Sam Stein.

German player Mario Puccini - who had a good run at CAPT Baden last month - is also in contention. Puccini sits near the middle of the pack as final table play looms. Andras Kovacs is in serious trouble as the short stack at the table - he is hoping that his live tournament experience will help him out on Sunday.

THE SEASON SO FAR (Results prior to EPT Loutraki Final Table)
952. Zimnan Ziyard, 31 PTPR Points
1570. Mario Puccini, 15
1704. Andras Kovacs, 13

This is the first PTPR Score of the year for Taramas, Mothes, Heseding, Schleps and Kapernopoulos,

It was a tough day for Rupert Elder. The former EPT San Remo champ had high hopes coming into Saturday's play - Elder even flirted with the chip lead during the session. But alas, it was not meant to be and Elder's chip stack fizzled and it become clear that he would not become the first ever two-time EPT Champion.

PTPR LEADERBOARD LIVE LOOK-IN:
58. Jake Cody, 156 PTPR Points
59. Jason Somerville, 155
59. John Juanda, 155
61. Erik Seidel, 153
62. Rupert Elder, 152
63. Lucien Cohen, 151

FINAL TABLE SEATING ASSIGNMENTS/CHIP COUNTS:

GIMBEL COMES UP A LITTLE SHORT IN QUEST FOR HOLLYWOOD DOUBLE

SOURCE: Seminole Hard Rock Poker Room > @SHRThePokerRoom on Twitter

It was almost deja vu all over again at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. Almost a year ago to the day, Harrison Gimbel was earning a 330K payday and a win at the Fall Poker Open Championship in Hollywood - Gimbel was two positions away from doing the exact same thing again yesterday, except this time it was at the Rock and Roll WPT Regional Main Event.

Gimbel, the 2010 PCA Champion, earned (surprisingly) only his first PTPR Score of the season.

The actual champion, when all was said and done, Farhan Madhani picked up the victory.

One of our favourite players - Allen Kessler - finished fourth in the event, earning his fifth PTPR Score of the year ...

PARTOUCHE MAIN: TRICKETT TAKES ANOTHER MILLY, WINS IN CANNES

PHOTO/SOURCE: PARTOUCHEPOKERTOUR.com

Another day, another tournament, another million dollars ... not a bad year for Sam Trickett ... not a bad year at all!

Trickett has just picked up his THIRD + million dollar paycheck, this time winning the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event Final Table. This is the fifth PTPR Score of the season for Trickett - who has had a dream season for sure.

Apart from his million euro win today, Trickett had double + million dollar pay days back in January, at high roller events at the Aussie Millions ...

PTPR LEADERBOARD LIVE LOOK-IN
28. Marvin Rettenmaier, 202 PTPR Points
29. Shawn Buchanan, 196
30. Sam Trickett, 193
31. Benjamin Spindler, 191
32. Amir Lehavot, 190
33. Alexander Kuzmin, 189

It looked like Salman Behbehani had every major pro pulling for him and for Trickett. Many were hoping that these two players would play heads up - and they did. Behbehani held the chip lead heading into Final Four play and, in fact, didn't lose the lead until the last two hands of the night.

Third place finisher Oleksii Kovalchuk can at least leave with a consolation prize - apart from the 379k EURO he gets to bring home - the WSOP bracelet winner, who has been hot on tour this season - lands in 20th position overall on the PTPR Player of the Year list for 2011, just a few points behind two-time 2011 EPT High Roller champ Philipp Gruissem.

FINAL FOUR PAYOUTS (IN EURO):
Sam Trickett 1.000.000€
Salman Behbehani 600.000€
Oleksii Kovalchuk 379.760€
Ilan Boujenah 300.000€

PARTOUCHE MAIN: TRICKETT, KOVALCHUK IN DEEP AT FINAL TABLE

SOURCE: PARTOUCHEPOKERTOUR.com

We are down to the final four in Cannes! The Partouche Poker Tour Season 4 Main Event is going down to the wire and Sunday is the big day!

Saturday saw the final nine competitors return to action after making it to final table play back in September. Five were eliminated on Saturday - they include Mads Wissing who lost all of his chips in no time. Wissing was chip leader mid-way through today's play but those chips quickly disappeared.

Roger Hairabedian, Mustapha Kanit, Alex Dovzhenko and Alexandre Coussy all followed Wissing to the money cage on Saturday.

This leaves Sam Trickett and Oleksii Kovalchuk as the two big names still alive at the final table. Trickett has had a very solid 2011 on the poker circuit - Kovalchuk burst onto the scene with a win this summer at the WSOP (and an Italian Poker Tour win) - and a win would place him into the PTPR Top 15 Player of the Year Leaderboard.

THE SEASON SO FAR (Results prior to Partouche Final Table)
32. Oleskii Kovalchuk, 188 PTPR Points
282. Sam Trickett, 78

2011 WSOP: THERE IS NO OTHER KIND - HEINZ IS YOUR WORLD CHAMPION

PHOTO/SOURCE: POKERNEWS.com

It's all over. The long marathon that looked like it would end in a flash well, didn't, as the WSOP crowned it's latest World Champion, Germany's Pius Heinz.

It looked to be over in a heartbeat. One hand in, one runner was crippled, four hands in, we were heads up ... all thanks to what many would describe as the "forgotten man" at the final table, Czech Martin Staszko. Most of the poker world were either picking Ben Lamb or Heinz to win it all ... most of North America was on the Lamb bandwagon while most of Europe seemed to be backing Heinz.

Well, we will all remember the performance of runner-up Martin Staszko. On the opening hand of three-handed play, Staszko went from the outhouse to the penthouse as he called Ben Lamb's all in. His sevens held and Lamb, the favourite heading into the start of Final Table play, was down to only a few big blinds - yes, it was that fast.

Three hands later, Staszko had disposed of Lamb, had taken the chip lead, and had won the first four hands of the night, and it looked like lady luck was on his side. In fact, Staszko held pocket sevens, pocket kings and pocket jacks in three of those first four hands.

But Pius Heinz wasn't going to let that affect his play. He was determined to push Staszko around and suddenly, the tide turned in Heinz' favour and it looked like we were going to be done very quickly. But Staszko battled back and refused to surrender. They traded chip leads a few more times and ... hours later, Heinz was back in the driver's seat and never looked back - becoming the first German to hold the title of poker's World Champion, succeeding from Canadian Jonathan Duhamel - who was a great ambassador for poker during his reign.

The quality of play at the final table was simply amazing. Also, what else can be said about ESPN's Final Table "live" coverage? The final three included Antonio Esfandiari's expert analysis, Antonio did a splendid job.

POONI GETS IT DONE AT THE BCPC

SOURCE: CANADAPOKER.com

First off, a big thank you to Jon Harnish from Canada Poker for the updated results - fantastic work! Follow Jon on Twitter @Jontm and be sure to read his stuff on CANADAPOKER.com !!

Another successful British Columbia Poker Championship (BCPC) Main Event is in the books. The River Rock Casino Resort near Vancouver (in Richmond) is proving to be a place that players want to visit this time of year.

Despite some big name pros from all over North America entering the event, it was mostly an unknown Western Canada/US-centric final table. When the dust settled, local player Rajdeep Pooni took over from Eric Place as BCPC Champion.

Pooni earns over 280K CAD with the win, quite a nice payday!

FINAL TABLE PAYOUTS (in CAD):
1st RAJDEEP POONI $288,467
2nd ADAM BITZ $181,860
3rd LEE GOLDMAN $112,878
