Step aside amateurs, the Pros have taken over at the WSOP! Two known pros collected their first first piece of WSOP jewelry early Wednesday morning.
First, uber-popular worldwide star Bertrand Grospellier - better known as ElkY - has collected his Poker Triple Crown - becoming the fourth player in poker history to win a WPT, EPT and WSOP title. ElkY's Triple Crown comes only ten days after fellow European player Jake Cody won his.
ElkY won the 10K Seven Card Stud Championship event, an event with a prize pool north of 1M bucks!
The win propels ElkY into the 2011 PTPR Player of the Year race - he jumps up to 4th overall with 237 PTPR Points, 22 points behind Eugene Katchalov.
Grospellier had to avoid big names en route to his bracelet win ... other notables in the Top 18 included: Steve Landfish, Maxwell Troy, John World Hennigan, Alexander Kostritsyn, Downtown Chad Brown, Chris Tryba, The Takeover Nick Schulman, Men The Master Nguyen, 2010 PTPR and Bluff Player of the Year Sorel Mizzi, Christopher George, Ville Wahlbeck, Jason Mercier and Matt Glantz.
Mercier collects his fifth PTPR Score of the 2011 season and inches closer and closer to the PTPR Top 15 Leaderboard.
Meanwhile, in the No Limit Hold'em event that ended a few hours before ElkY's win, another known pro, Jason Somerville collected his first career major live tournament victory. The Long Island native outlasted a field of 3,175 players wiht a total prize pool a little over 100k short of two million!!
Tim West collected his first WSOP points of 2011. West, who earned 28 points with his 15th place finish, actually moves back a spot to 6th on the 2011 PTPR Tournament Player of the Year Leaderboard due to ElkY's victory.
James Schaaf, Brett Shaffer, Lex Veldhuis and Michael Blocksidge also finished in the Top 18.
