PTS AT STAKE: RED-HOT ESLAMI LEADS TINY FIELD AT WPT HOLLYWOOD

Ali Eslami is the hottest player on the tournament circuit at the moment. And he leads a tiny field as Day 2 has started at the WPT Hollywood Poker Open.

Eslami, who currently holds the #1 rank on the 2011 PTPR Player of the Year Leaderboard, could seriously increase his lead with a big score.

Shannon Shorr and 2010 PTPR Player of the Year third place finisher Thomas Marchese are also Top 5 in chips. Shorr has had good results the past six months, but a major victory has eluded him in this time-span.

Unfortunately, the big story is not the play of the runners, but the lack of runners actually entered in this field. Less than 100 players at a WPT event? How about the defending champion, Carlos Mortensen not defending his championship, instead chosing to play at Mohegan this week?

The NAPT event at Mohegan Sun does seem to be the major reason why we have such a small field here - add to that the WSOP Circuit St. Louis Main Event starting today, the EPT Berlin event that's currently ongoing and even the current Heartland Tour event on the go and, well, that's what you get, too many tournaments in too short of a time-frame.

Eslami, Shorr, Marchese and others will certainly try to take advantage of this and pickup valuable PTPR Points and a WPT bracelet along the way.

Notable elimantions include:
Randal Flowers, Vivek Rajkumar, Steve Gross, Christian Harder, Andy Frankenberger, Dwyte Pilgrim, Joseph Cheong, Michael Benvenuti and Bobby Suer.
