There may not be a more clutch live tournament poker player out there than Oleksii Kovalchuk. Kovalchuk has captured the IPT San Remo crown - his second IPT title in five months and his fourth title on the poker circuit in the past twelve months.
We first were introduced to Kovalchuk (2011 PTPR Rank: 19th) when he won the Russian Poker Tour Kiev Main Event in his native Ukraine, he followed that up with a big win at the WSOP this summer, collecting his first bracelet, and now, two IPT Champioships ... almost 2M in earnings in less than a year.
The reigning PTPR Tournament Poker Rookie of the Year, Kovalchuk also had a deep run at the Partouche Grand Final - making it to the final table last November.
Kovalchuk is an absolute threat to Eugene Katchalov when debating just who is the best poker player from the Ukraine?
Marco Fabbrini finished fifth in the event. Fabbrini (2011 PTPR Rank: 1692nd) had a deep run at EPT San Remo in April.
Last year's champion of this event, Luca Pagano, will participate in final table play at EPT Deauville on Monday.
