2012 AUSSIE: FARAZ JAKA SCORES FOR SECOND TIME THIS SEASON

PHOTO/SOURCE: POKERENEWS.com

It may not be exactly what Faraz Jaka who hoping for but Faraz Jaka is on the right path to start the 2012 poker season.

Twice now Jaka has been in great position to pickup tournament wins - twice Jaka has come short but, it's still two significant scores to start the year.

After collecting a Top 5 finish in the Main Event at the PCA in the Bahamas two weeks ago, Jaka (2011 PTPR Rank: 2090th) was runner-up to Jean-Paul Helderman in the NLH Six-Max side event here at the Aussie Millions - picking up close to 80K with the second place finish.

For Helderman (2011 PTPR Rank: NR), this marks his first live tournament score of his poker career.

Tam Truong (2011 PTPR Rank: NR), former EPT Copenhagen Champ Anton Wigg (2011 PTPR Rank: 1430th), Daniel Laidlaw (2011 PTPR Rank: 2087th) and Jarred Solomon (2011 PTPR Rank: 259th) are other notables who collected PTPR Points in the event.

1st Jean-Paul Helderman A$110,600
2nd Faraz Jaka A$77,000
3rd Tam Truong A$55,600

2012 AUSSIE: FINAL TABLE SET - NELSON, IVEY, IDEMA TO MAKE OTHER PLANS FOR SUNDAY

PHOTO/SOURCE: POKERENEWS.com

We have our final table down under! Bjorn Li leads the final group of seven to the felt in order to find out who will be Aussie Millions Main Event Champion for 2012.

Li (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) had a great end to the day on Saturday. He took a big pot from Oliver Speidel and ended Daniel Idema's Aussie Millions journey in about an hour, securing the chip lead from those two big moments.

It's not all bad for Speidel (2011 PTPR Rank: 346th). The 2011 Aussie Millions NLH w/Rebuys winner still bagged the second most chips - still, he's 1.3M behind our leader.

Chip leader heading into Saturday play Yann Dion had some tough times during the day. Dion wasn't able to hold onto the pole position, he's going into Sunday's action with the fifth top stack, sadly for Dion (2011 PTPR Rank: NR), he's got less chips in hand than he did when he was declared the chip leader when we reached Final 12 play.

It wasn't all roses in Melbourne on Saturday. Three players that were favourites to make it to the final table were unable to do so.

The previously mentioned Idema (2011 PTPR Rank: 145th) was unable to keep this summer's WSOP bracelet winning momentum going, he was the last to leave today.

Former Aussie Millions Champion Lee Nelson (pictured) was looking for a repeat. Sadly for Nelson (2011 PTPR Rank: 835th) - the defending ANZPT Melbourne Champion - it was lights out early during Saturday play.

The one everyone was looking for on Saturday - and throughout the tournament - was Phil Ivey. After dominating for most of the week, Ivey (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) had a steep mountain to climb during Final 12 play. Ivey was last in chips coming in and needed to push early in order to get back into contention. Unfortunately for Ivey, he was unable to shake off Dion's Ace-King and was the first man out - not all bad news for Ivey, he was out in time to register for the monster 250K buy-in Super High Roller event - event that's still ongoing now. UPDATE: as of press time, we are down to the Final Four in the 250K event - Ivey is (surprise, surprise) first in chips, followed by Daniel Negreanu, Patrik Antonius and Gus Hansen.

FINAL TABLE SEAT ASSIGNMENTS/CHIP COUNTS
Seat 1 Mile Krstanoski 2,295,000
Seat 2 Yann Dion 2,325,000

2012 AUSSIE: DION LEADS THE FINAL 12

Another fairly quick day will be followed by what should be - you guessed it - another fairly quick day at the Aussie Millions Main Event.

The final 26 players came back on Friday in order to play down to the final 12. These 12 players will all gather at the Crown Casino on Saturday and play down to our final table.

Canadian Yann Dion has captured the lead at the Main Event. He is followed closely by Bjorn Li. Dion's Canadian team mate, Daniel Idema, held the chip lead for part of the day - he now finds himself fifth in chips.

Phil Ivey is still alive but will need to get things going early on Friday - Ivey has the shortest chip stack as Saturday looms.

Matt Turk and Tim O'Shea - who each held the chip leads during the two previous days of play - were both eliminated on Friday.

2012 AUSSIE: DAY 4 PREVIEW - FINAL 26 INCLUDES IVEY, O'SHEA AND TURK!

PHOTO/SOURCE: POKERENEWS.com

Matt Turk leads the remaining 26 players into Day 4 at the Aussie Millions Main Event. No, it's no typo, Matt Turk leads the Aussie.

I'm willing to bet many of you did or are in the process of doing what I did earlier today - go to the Hendon Mob database to check out just who Matt Turk is.

According to the Mob, Matthew Turk has about 4K in winnings in his live tournament career - his last cash coming in August 2010.

So, excuse us for asking, just who is Matt Turk? Simple answer, he's the dude that leads the Aussie Millions in Friday play - and he has double the chips that second place Tim O'Shea has.

It's obvious that Turk (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) has momentum on his side, he hopes to keep it up on Day 4.

As mentioned, Tim O'Shea is second in chips after Day 3 play. O'Shea (2011 PTPR Rank: 346th) held the chip lead at the end of Day 2 - it looks like he continued to accumulate chips at a rapid rate on Thursday.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that ALL the attention remains on Phil Ivey. Some are actually wondering at what point he will break his media silence. Would a win get Phil to open up? Probably not, knowing that Ivey has never been big on exposure.

Well, Phil is letting his play do the talking. Ivey (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) will start Day 4 sixth in chips as one of seven players with above 1M chip stacks. The picture at the top of this article says it all when it comes to Ivey, what a rail!

Former Aussie Millions Champion Lee Nelson is still in this thing. Nelson (2011 PTPR Rank: 835th) has a Top 10 stack heading into Friday play.

A pair of Canadians are also holding their own down under as Yann Dion (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) and 2011 WSOP bracelet winner and former BCPC Champ Daniel Idema (2011 PTPR Rank: 145th) both hold Top 10 chip stacks and shouldn't be overlooked on Friday.

NOTABLE CHIP STACKS (over 200K in chips)
Matt Turk 2,675,000
Tim O'Shea 1,376,000 Day 2 Chip Leader
Yann Dion 1,156,000

2012 AUSSIE: '11 PRELIM WINNER O'SHEA LEADS, IVEY STANDS RIGHT BEHIND HIM

PHOTO/SOURCE: POKERENEWS.com

Day 2 play is complete and it looks like Phil Ivey is in it to win it.

With 74 players remaining - only two away from the money bubble - Ivey (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) is second in chips 778K. Ivey must be scaring the living hell out of the remaining field.

Ivey trails only Tim O'Shea in the Main Event. O'Shea (2011 PTPR Rank: 346th)
won the NLH 6-Max event here at the Aussie Millions last season.

Another Aussie Millions prelim winner from 2011, Oliver Speidel, is fifth in chips. Speidel (2011 PTPR Rank: 346th, tied with O'Shea) currently has 540K in chips for the tournament.

2006 Aussie Millions Main Event Champion Lee Nelson also has a healthy chip stack. Nelson (2011 PTPR Rank: 836th) - who won the ANZPT Melbourne Main Event in 2011 - will look to collect more chips on Day 3 as the money bubble draws near.

Aage Ravn (2011 PTPR Rank: NR), Jason Koon (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) and Yann Dion (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) are other top stacks to keep an eye on Day 3.

NOTABLE CHIP STACKS (over 200K in chips)
Tim O'Shea 921,000

2012 AUSSIE: IVEY'S ROOM OPENS AT CROWN; KEVMATH KASHES IN TERMINATOR

PHOTO/SOURCE: POKERENEWS.com

Let's take you back down under to see what's happening at the Aussie Millions.

Before taking you to Main Event coverage - where a certain MEGA star continues his comeback to the poker circuit - we take you to Event #14 - the $500 Terminator event. Although we're still not sure what exactly happens when you don't cash in the "Terminator" event, we do know that a friend to PTPR - Mr. Kevmath himself - Kevin Mathers (the KING of poker knowledge) was able to secure a sixth place finish, winning over 6K for his efforts! Very well played sir, so happy for you! Score one for the good guys!

Did Kevmath steal Ivey's thunder? Well, if you go according to all the accolades Kev received on Twitter today, it may very well be the case ... but I don't think that Ivey minds not getting the attention!

IVEY'S ROOM

Well, well, well - look who decided to leave the big game in Macau and join most of the poker world in Melbourne? That's right kid, one of the greatest ever is back on the tournament grind. After participating in the 100K Challenge, Ivey registered for Day 1C of the Aussie Millions Main Event.

Ivey's chip stack went up and down and up and down on Day 1C ... but, when we were bagging and tagging, all eyes were on Ivey's chip stack, it sits at over 180K, good for 8th place.

Although it's not the #1 spot, Phil Ivey (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) with a Top 10 chip stack after Day 1? Could be deadly.

The overall chip leader is Brett Watson. Watson (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) is the only man with a +200K chip stack, 257K to be more precise.

James Dempsey (2011 PTPR Rank: 61st), Jason Koon (2011 PTPR Rank: NR), Kenna James (2011 PTPR Rank: NR), Melanie Weisner (2011 PTPR Rank: 1156th) and PCA 5K NLH 8-Max Turbo winner Kunimaro Kojo (2011 PTPR Rank: 2357th) all have healthy chip stacks as all three remaining Day 1 players will converge to the Crown Casino for Day 2 play.

There are currently a total of 654 entries for the Main Event - registration is still open until the end of the first level played on Day 2.

Looks like the total prizepool will top the 6 million dollar mark - well done, Australia!

Smith defeated Mikhail Smirnov heads up. Smirnov (2011 PTPR Rank: 1150th) lost a huge race late and was unable to recover.

Australia's native son Joe Hachem (2011 PTPR Rank: 322nd) and the one and only Tony G (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) were the only two other players to finish in the money in the event.

2012 AUSSIE: IRISHMAN PARKHILL WINS THE BOUNTY/SHOOTOUT

PHOTO/SOURCE: POKERENEWS.com

Congratulations to Ross Parkhill, the latest winner at the Aussie Millions! Parkhill was able to fend off 32 opponents on Sunday to pickup the coveted gold ring.

The tournament, which started as a standard bounty tournament Saturday, transformed into a shootout on Sunday, where the last two remaining players at each of the four tables met up for a final table showdown.

Parkhill (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) defeated Michal Polchlopek heads up. Polchlopek (2011 PTPR Rank: 2091st) earned a WPT Venice score last season.

Jamie Pickering (2011 PTPR Rank: NR), 2011 Aussie Millions Rebuys winner Oliver Speidel (2011 PTPR Rank: 346th) and James Obst (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) were other notables that finished in the Top 8.

Day 1 chip leader Melanie Weisner (2011 PTPR Rank: 1156th) had a tough day on Sunday. Things looked good as the day started but, unfortunately, it wasn't too long for Weisner - the new Lock Poker Pro - to hit the rail.

That's right, after a day full of bounties, the final four tables of eight players will turn into shootout tables with each table's winner meeting up in the final four!

Weisner (2011 PTPR Rank: 1156th) had some success on the circuit in 2011 but was never able to secure a major score.

Aussie veteran Jamie Pickering (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) is second in chips - about 50K behind Weisner.

Harry Demetriou (2011 PTPR Rank: NR), Oliver Speidel (2011 PTPR Rank: 346th), Eric Crain (2011 PTPR Rank: 680th) and James Obst (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) are a few other notable players still alive in the event.

2012 AUSSIE: PEDLEY OUTLASTS xMONSTERxDONGx AS LOCAL LEGENDS BATTLE

PHOTO/SOURCE: POKERENEWS.com

An All-Aussie showdown was the culmination of a stacked final table down under at the Aussie Millions NLH 1K Rebuy event.

Michael Pedley and xMONSTERxDONGx Jonathan Karamalikis gave the local crowd what they wanted - two Aussies fighting for the Championship. In the end, the man that won a Aussie prelim back in 2008 was the winner as Pedley collected over 122K AUD with the victory. Karamalikis, obvisouly, was second.

djk123 Dan Kelly's third place finish was his second big showing this week at the Aussie - Kelly won the PLO event earlier this week - certainly a good start to the year for djk123.

Sad to see Marvin Rettenmaier and Michael Benvenuti go so early. Both players were game for a go at the title but, neither was able to get things going early - Benvenuti's struggles earned him zero PTPR Points for the effort while Rettenmaier, who was the chip leader coming into final table play, managed to earn 5 PTPR Points.

PHOTO/SOURCE: POKERENEWS.com

Tom Middleton defeated Joel Dodds heads up to win the 1K NLH 6-Max event at the Aussie Millions yesterday.

For Dodds (2011 PTPR Rank: 564th), it was yet another close call. He had a third place finish at the Everest Poker The One Event last April.

2012 AUSSIE: MAD MARVIN, SIRWATTS, MONSTER DONG LEAD FT CHARGE AT 1K REBUY

PHOTO/SOURCE: POKERENEWS.com

We're back to Australia for continuing coverage of the Aussie Millions - and we've got a doozy of a final table about to begin in the 1K NLH Rebuy event.

2011 PTPR Top Scorer (earned the most PTPR Scores with nine) Marvin Rettenmaier leads the charge in the prelim event. Mad Marvin (2011 PTPR Rank: 21st) enters final table play with 113K in chips. Rettenmaier will look to put a disappointing showing at WPT Ireland behind him and pickup his first win of 2012 later today.

Canadian poker pro SirWatts, Mike Watson, holds onto second place by a small margin. Watts (2011 PTPR Rank: 25th) will count on his tournament experience to guide him to a tournament victory.

Entering the final day in third place, Jonathan Karamalikis will certainly be looking to play the role of hometown hero. The Aussie legend known to most as xMONSTERxDONGx (2011 PTPR Rank: 2358th) will certainly have a lot of people pulling for him.

In fourth place is Michael Pedley (2011 PTPR Rank: NR). Pedley won a 1K prelim here at the Aussie Millions back in 2008 ... Jim Collopy (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) was second to Gus Hansen at the 2010 WSOP Europe Heads Up Championship.

Master Classics prelim winner Michael Benvenuti (2011 PTPR Rank: 466th) and WSOP bracelet winner Dan djk123 Kelly (2011 PTPR Rank: 540th) - who has already scooped a title here earlier this week - are two American players hoping to take this one down.

FINAL TABLE CHIP COUNTS:
1- Marvin Rettenmaier 113,700
2- Mike Watson 102,600
3- Jonathan Karamalikis 101,000
4- Michael Pedley 77,800

2012 AUSSIE: GOING INTO OVERTIME IN OPENING EVENT DOWN UNDER

PHOTO/SOURCE: POKERENEWS.com

We are going into overtime down under! The return of the Opening Event at the Aussie Millions attracted a stunning 946 players - down only a few players from the 1,000 player field in 2011 - and organizers were forced to extend the event by one day.

After three Day 1's and Day 2 yesterday, it was obvious that the final 10 players weren't going to settle things in the original time frame.

Scott Wilson (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) will enter final table play as chip leader, hoping to be the one to replace defending champ Martin Drewe (2011 PTPR Rank: 182nd) as 2012 winner.

Wilson holds a 1M chip lead over Brendon Rubie (2011 PTPR Rank: 1766th), who had one PTPR last season, at the WSOP.

The other notable player at the final table, Manny Stavropoulos, shares the same 2011 rank as Rubie. Stavropoulos (2011 PTPR Rank: 1766th) finished in the Top 10 at the Main Event at last season's Aussie Millions.

FINAL TABLE CHIP COUNTS:
1- Scott Wilson 2,628,000
2- Brendon Rubie 1,625,000
3- Rob Angood 1,384,000

7- Manny Stavropoulos 554,000
