ENGLISH OPEN: PETERSEN DEFEATS LEGENDS FOR 2ND WIN OF SEASON

PHOTO: English Poker Open

Danish poker pro Mickey Petersen (2012 QJ/PTPR Rank: 19th) collected his second W of the 2012 poker season on Friday winning the English Poker Open in London.

Petersen, who won EPT Copenhagen in his home country earlier this season, had to overcome the charge of two poker legends on his way to victory.

Chris Bjorin (2012 QJ/PTPR Rank: T-76th) was the runner-up in the event. Bjorin's impressive poker resume includes two WSOP bracelets ... Bjorin has also made it to four final tables in the past two WSOP's, all in non-hold'em events.

It was a third place finish for 2004 WPT Grand Prix de Paris champ Surinder Sunar (2012 QJ/PTPR Rank: T-1,667th).

Sunar's first live tournament cash dates back to January of 1987 where he min-cashed in a 1K NLH event at the Poker Grand Prix at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. The eventual winner of that event? Chip Reese!

PHOTO (credit Neil Stoddart)/SOURCE: POKERSTARS.com

Mickey Petersen sure picked the right time to win his first live tournament title. The online poker pro picks up over 2.5M DKK after winning the 2012 edition of EPT Copenhagen in Denmark.

Petersen (2011 PTPR Rank: 1155th) is widely known as one of the best poker players on the virtual felt and although he has had some live scores before, most felt is was only a matter of time for Petersen to pickup his first big victory on the live circuit.

Petersen - who wins the event in his native Denmark - slugged it out with Belgian pro Pierre Neuville for a grueling SIX hour marathon before a winner was declared.

Neuville (2011 PTPR Rank: 234th) had been in contention for a few days, having completed Thursday's play as the chip leader.

We've reached the final table in Denmark. EPT Copenhagen will reach its apex Saturday at Casino Copenhagen.

Online pro Mickey Petersen will start fourth in chips on Saturday. Petersen (2011 PTPR Rank: 1155th) made a deep run in a NLH event at this past summer's WSOP.

The man who finished third last season in the race for PTPR Tournament Player of the Year - Steve O'Dwyer - makes his return to final table play on Saturday, O'Dwyer will score his first PTPR Points of 2012 on Saturday.
