CLOSING OUT EPT BERLIN: HURTADO, SCHEMION COLLECT WINS

We were waiting for the final results from the side events at EPT Berlin before posting, unfortunately, low turn-outs to those side-events means that only two of them qualified for PTPR Points, both No Limit Hold'Em events.

Event 6 was a $3,060 event and 248 players participated. William Hurtado was the big winner, collecting over $150,000 in the process.

2010 EPT Copenhagen winner Anton Wigg (pictured) finished fourth in the event, collecting his first PTPR Points of the 2011 season. Jon Spinks and Andrew Teng also collected points.

EPT BERLIN: FIRST LIVE CASH EARNS WILINOFSKY EPT BERLIN TITLE

Some would kill to be Canadian Ben Wilinofsky. The young Canuck, who was an online qualifier, has cashed for the first time in a live tournament ... and has won the EPT Berlin Main Event title - not bad, first timer!

Wilinofsky hit everyone's radar during Saturday's play, when reporters were scrambling to find info on him ... less than 24 hours later, he is a EPT Champion.

His win earns him a spot on the 2011 PTPR Player of the Year Leaderboard ... a fourth place finish (and a third final table appearance during this 2010-11 EPT season) also earns Swede Martin Jacobson a spot on the PTPR Leaderboard.

Jacobson earns his third PTPR Score of the 2011 PTPR season and now sits with 130 PTPR Points.

6th place finisher Darren Kramer earned his 2nd PTPR Score of the year, he now sits tied for 30th with 102 PTPR Points.

The EPT now heads to San Remo for the final tour stop prior the EPT Grand Final in May. EPT San Remo defending champion Liv Boeree will be looking to defend her crown starting April 27.

EPT BERLIN: CAN MARTIN JACOBSON GET OVER THE HUMP?

Martin Jacobson has had a very succesful 2010-11 EPT campaign ... with the Grand Final on the horizon, Jacobson will play at his third final table of season when play begins Sunday. But Jacobson's two straight second-place finishes at the previous two final tables must make him want this EPT Berlin title more than any other player left in the field. Jacobson will enter final table play 6th in chips but a double-up and things could get very interesting.

The chip leader heading into Sunday's final table at EPT Berlin is PokerStars qualifier Ben Wilinofsky (pictured). The Canadian holds over 5.2M chips, a small lead over German Maximilian Heinzelmann. Belarusian Vadzim Kursevich is the only other player with over 4M in chips.

Team PokerStars Pro Joep van den Bijgaart is one of the small stacks remaing at the table.

The chip leaders from the last two days, Daniel Pidun and Fabrice Soulier, were eliminated late on Saturday. Kristijonas Andrulis, who finished 12th, earned his 3rd PTPR Score of the season.

EPT BERLIN: MANY STARS FADE ON DAY 3

While many name players emerged during Day 2 play at EPT Berlin, it was the exact opposite today as Day 3 closes with 24 players left - many of which are unknowns to most poker fans.

Now that doesn't mean that we're in for a boring final two days but, in fact, it means that we may have an unknow star in the making - could PokerStars qualifier Ben Wilinofsky be that man?

But it's still sad to see the big boys go, especially Roberto Romanello and Vladimir Geshkenbein, both of which were looking to continue their hot streaks at major events - maybe next time, gentlemen.

Daniel-Gai Pidun took the chip lead from Maximilian Heinzelmann very late on Friday. Team PokerStars Pro Joep van den Bijgaart in still very much in contention while Frenchman Fabrice Soulier, who held a major chip lead after Day 2, lost over 200,000 of his chips on Friday.

Meanwhile Martin Jacobson is making a deep run in a third EPT tournament in less than 6 months - can he improve on his two runner-up finishes? He has some work ahead of him in order to do so.

Ok, I admit it, "if the shoe fits" is one terrible pun and a bad way of using Fabrice Soulier's name in the title of this article .. but, does the fact that I'm French somehow give me a free pass? :)

Fabrice Soulier (pictured) destroyed the field during Thursday's Day 2 play. The man holds a close to 2:1 chip over his third place opponent, and we still have over 100 players still in the running. Quite an impressive Day 2 for the Everest Poker Sponsored Pro.

The "bridesmaid of the EPT", Martin Jacobson, who finished runner-up at EPT Vilamoura and EPT Deauville in the last year, currently sits 5th in chips.

Defending EPT Barcelona winner Kent Lundmark is also in the hunt, sitting 12th in chips after Day 2 play.

Two recent major event champions - Vladimir Geshkenbein (EPT Snowfest) and Roberto Romanello (WPT Bratislava, who also won EPT Prague back in December) are amongst the chip leaders after the completion of both Day 1's at EPT Berlin.

Geshkenbein finished Day 1B with 181,500 in chips, Romanello carries 152,400 chips into Day following his Day 1B performance.

The overall chip leader heading in Thursday's Day 2 is Dutch player Sander Bernsden, who has 242,900 in chips.

Even though total numbers are done compared to last year, still, a very impressive 773 players will fight for a total prizepool of over 5.5M USD.
