WPT IRELAND: SHALLOW GETS IT DONE THE HARD WAY

PHOTO/SOURCE: WPT.com

David Shallow surely likes to make things complicated. The goal today for Shallow (2011 PTPR Rank: NR) was simple. Take the humongous chip stack and bash your four opponents' brains in. Sadly, things don't go as planned sometimes - and Shallow learned the hard way!

Chaz Chattha (2011 PTPR Rank: 838th) seemed to be the small-stacked thorn in Shallow's side - he refused to step down and in fact took the chip lead while we were heads up.

But, Shallow was able to pull himself together and - in the end - became the first WPT Ireland Champion - besting a 338-player field in the process.

Steve Watts (2011 PTPR Rank: 1035th) was the other notable player at the Final Table - he was able to secure fourth place today in Dublin.

WPT IRELAND FINAL TABLE PAYOUTS (IN USD):
1- David Shallow $289,031
2- Charles Chattha $144,502
3- Ronan Gilligan $96,339
4- Steve Watts $68,396
5- Patrik Vestlin $51,063

WPT IRELAND: WILD NIGHT LEAVES SHALLOW DOMINATING FINAL FIVE

Forget the traditional WPT six-person Final Table, they do things differently in Ireland!

After a marathon 14-hour session, about 30 minutes were left. And what crazy action to end the night! Forget the traditional six-player final table, this WPT Main Event will only have five, thanks to massive chip leader David Shallow.

Shallow was able to counterfeit pocket aces and pocket queens by turning a jack - to go with the pocket jacks he was holding - and take one heck of a chip lead heading into Final Table play on Sunday. Shallow has a little over 6 million chips in hands ... the remaining four players hold about 4M in chips total.

It's Shallow's tournament to lose for sure although the other four players, including defending GUKPT Luton Champion Charles Chattha hope that they will be able to pull the upset and become the first ever WPT Ireland Champion.

WPT IRELAND FINAL TABLE SEAT DRAW:
Seat 1: Steve Watts - 1,345,000
Seat 2: Patrik Vestlin - 1,070,000
Seat 3: Charles Chattha - 835,000
Seat 4: David Shallow - 6,115,000
Seat 5: Ronan Gilligan - 775,000

PTS AT STAKE: FINAL 36 ALREADY PLAYING AT INAUGURAL WPT IRELAND

PHOTO/SOURCE: WPT.com

It was matter of time until the World Poker Tour made it's way to the poker hotbed that is the country of Ireland. Ireland already hosts top events such as the Irish Open, the Euro Masters, the Unibet Open and the various poker Festival Main Events ... well know, it's WPT title time!

WPT Ireland kicked off on Thursday with an impressive 338 player field, creating a prizepool just short of 1M US! Many star players made their way to the Citywest Hotel in Dublin eyeing the WPT title.

Dublin has not been kind to most name player however. 2011 PTPR Top Scorer "Mad" Marvin Rettenmaier, McLean Karr, bracelet winner Marty Smyth, Kara Scott, Leo Margets, Toby Lewis, Tatjana Pasalic, WPT title holder Sam El Sayed, Andy Black, Jake Cody and James Dempsey are all gone and gone - maybe these players now have plans to invade the PCA in the Bahamas or the Aussie Millions earlier than expected?

With so many big names out, the event is wide open and is for anyone to take at this point. Day 3 is already underway, the current chip leader is David Shallow. Shallow owns almost 1M chips, his closest competition is Franck Boyer, who is sitting at around 800K in chips.

Stuart Fox - who had 2011 PTPR Scores at EPT Tallin and at the DTD Monte Carlo in July - sits in the Top 5, hoping his previous experience in big events will serve him well.

Hendon Mobster is still alive, he has the 12th largest chip stack at the moment.

We're playing down to a final table today!
