2011 WSOP: CHAOS AT THE TOP - MERCIER, ElkY, OTHER STARS TAKE CHARGE

What a crazy two days it's been!

In the last 48 hours, 7 players had their part in assaulting the PTPR Tournament Player of the Year Leaderboard.

ElkY (4th), Galen Hall (6th), Ben Lamb (8th), Chris Moorman (11th), Jon Turner (20th) and Scott Seiver (23rd) - all made moves towards the #1 spot.

But, when play ended at Event 49 - Deuce to Seven Triple Draw Lowball - Jason Mercier has taken the 2011 poker season by storm and overtakes Eugene Katchalov as the #1 tournament player so far this season.

Mercier's lead (currently at 6 points) could have been way more. In fact, although Mercier becomes the first player to crack the 300 PTPR Point mark this season, he would have cracked the 400-point mark had he won the event ... event that he once had the chip lead in. He was doing real well until he lost two straight pots, which crippled him for the rest of the event, eventually checking out in 6th position.

Mercier becomes the first player this season to collect his 7th PTPR Score. Last year, Sorel Mizzi lead the way with 10 PTPR Scores - seems like Mercier is well on his way to eclipsing that mark.

Leonard Martin ended up winning Event 49, beating Justin Bonomo heads up. Eli Elezra was fifth in the event.
